Jason A. Tye-Din, MD, FRACP, PhD, AGAF, is Director of the Snow Centre for Immune Health, Professor of Medical Biology and Head of the Coeliac Research Laboratory at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, and a gastroenterologist at The Royal Melbourne Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
He leads a translational research program focused on celiac disease immunology, gluten-specific T-cell responses, oral gluten challenge models, diagnostic and biomarker discovery, immune monitoring, and preclinical and clinical drug development. His work defining pathogenic gluten peptides in celiac disease has supported the development of peptide-based diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. He has published widely in leading journals, including Gastroenterology, Gut and The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology.
The program brings together government, philanthropic, patient advocacy and industry partnerships. Contributions to the field include the development of immunomonitoring tools and standardized gluten challenge models for use in clinical trials, as well as the design and conduct of numerous clinical studies in celiac disease. Professor Tye-Din has also served as a consultant or advisor to more than 20 biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies on disease biology, biomarkers, therapeutic development and clinical trial design.
He co-chairs the International Society for the Study of Celiac Disease’s Gluten Safety and Standards Committee and served as Rapporteur for the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Meeting on Food Allergens addressing reference doses for priority allergens, including gluten-containing cereals.
